MaximumASP deploys Brivo access control system at managed hosting facility free RSS news feed from the Biometric News Portal

Brivo Systems LLC has announced that MaximumASP and its sister company MaximumColo have deployed a Brivo OnSite SE/XE™ solution for upgraded access control capabilities in their co-location and managed hosting facility. MaximumASP, a Web-hosting firm located in Louisville, Kentucky, is a recipient of the prestigious 2009 Microsoft Hosting Solutions Partner of the Year award. The integrator for the project is ADT.

As both a managed hosting and co-location facility, it is essential that MaximumASP provide a very high level of security for their many clients. Both operations are housed in the same building and the relatively new co-location business is growing at a good pace. “Brivo allows us to effectively control security for our three different ‘customers’: our employees, our vendors, and our direct customers,” said Stacy Griggs, Vice President of Sales, MaximumASP. “The co-location operation houses equipment for multiple competing telecom carriers and each must have access to their own gear while maintaining strict separation between them.”

The Brivo system manages all the buildings’ outside doors and those internal doors to each customer’s equipment areas. During business hours, a user need only go through two secure doors to reach their designated area; after hours, there are three secure doors. All door readers are equipped with biometric access as well as a keypad for entering a PIN number—both are required for entry. In the employee-only areas of the building, access is gained with a proximity card.

“We had another access control system at our prior location,” Griggs related, “but we did not have the granular control we have with Brivo. The system took a long time to give us each biometric reading and we wanted more sophisticated control on all of the doors so we can provide our customers with the protected and documented access they need.”

“We selected Brivo for their modular system architecture, which allows us to grow and add new control panels as our facility increases in size,” commented Eric Peek, Director of Information Security. “As a new and ever-expanding co-location datacenter we do not know how many doors or input/output devices we will need in the future. With Brivo, we can continue to expand our access control needs as fast as our business grows.”

At present, the Brivo system controls 10 doors for a total of 60 users, but as the co-location business continues to grow and new sections of the building are brought online, MaximumASP expects to have several hundred users divided into multiple access groups for employees, each of their customers, and all their different sub-contractors.

MaximumASP was able to make use of their existing control panels thanks to Brivo's DataSync solution, an XML API that enables integration between the Brivo system and the end user’s legacy hardware and data. Peek again, “The best feature of the Brivo system is their open XML API that allows us to integrate our custom control panel into the access control system. With this API we can use our control panel to add users, add groups, suspend users/groups, and even control things such as doors and other input/output devices connected to our Brivo access panels. The reporting and notification options are also great features that other competing access control systems just do not have.”

“The Brivo user interface is configurable enough to allow very granular control over the system but easy enough to use so that entry level personnel can be trained to perform daily tasks like adding/deleting users,” Peek concluded.
